Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
The new Jiaodong airport, opened in 2021, is much further from the sea and the historic city than the old Liuting airport: by taxi the trip to Wusi Square can take over an hour, depending on the route. Since 22 September 2026, however, metro line 8 connects the whole stretch from Wusi Square to the airport with express trains in under 40 minutes, making the historic centre a realistic choice even for those with only one evening. Anyone who still prefers to stay near the terminals will find a cluster of international hotels in the Chengyang and Hongdao area, around the new exhibition centre; anyone who wants the sea, the beach and the architecture from the early twentieth century should instead aim for the Shinan district, around Wusi Square.
