Rome Fiumicino: the guide to Italy's premier hub
The Leonardo Express connects Fiumicino airport to Termini Station in 32 minutes with no intermediate stops, departing every 15 minutes at €14 per ticket: it is the fastest connection to central Rome, unaffected by Grande Raccordo Anulare traffic.
Direct train: Leonardo Express
The service departs from Fiumicino Airport between 5:38 am and 11:27 pm and from Rome Termini between 4:50 am and 11:05 pm, with a train every 15 minutes during peak hours. A single ticket costs €14, but the Minigruppi rate (4 tickets for €40) significantly reduces the per-person cost for groups.
Shuttle buses: the budget alternative
Numerous private shuttle buses connect Fiumicino to various areas of Rome at lower fares than the train, with frequent departures during the day; the drawback is dependence on Grande Raccordo Anulare traffic, which during peak hours can add 30–40 minutes to the journey compared to scheduled time.
Taxis: the dual tariff in effect since 2025
Since September 12, 2025, Fiumicino has had two different fixed rates for rides to central Rome (within the Aurelian Walls): €55 for taxis with Roma Capitale license and €80 for taxis with Fiumicino license, both including luggage and surcharges. Before getting in, ask the driver to show you the rate card displayed in the car, so you know immediately which of the two applies to your ride.
If you take a taxi from Fiumicino, check the license and rate card before leaving: with two different fixed rates in effect since 2025 (€55 or €80 for the same trip to the center), it is the only way to avoid disputes at the end of the ride.
