Røros Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Røros airport is just 2-3 km from the centre: a taxi covers the distance in 5-7 minutes for about 180 NOK (17 €). There's nothing around the runway, so there's no point looking for a hotel there: Røros has been a UNESCO World Heritage museum town since 1980, with the wooden houses of the copper miners still intact, and the historic centre is the only real destination for those flying all the way here. The choice therefore comes down to where to sleep inside or just outside the historic core, not whether to be nearby or not.
The UNESCO historic centre
City centre · Taxi from the centre to the airport in 5-7 minutes; the train to Trondheim and Oslo departs from Røros station, in the heart of the town.
Best for: Those who want the seventeenth-century wooden houses, Røros church and the mining museum a short walk from the room.
Pros
- Cobbled streets, protected wooden houses and the mining museum reachable on foot in a few minutes
- Several historic hotels to choose from, all within 5-10 minutes on foot from Røros church
Cons
- Some historic buildings have narrow stairs and small rooms, being renovated houses rather than modern constructions
- Out of season several restaurants in the centre close early in the evening
Recommended hotels in this area
- Erzscheidergaarden Hotell: A protected seventeenth-century building right next to Røros church, named after the old 'ore separator' who used to live there; rooms with period furnishings a few minutes on foot from all the main attractions.
- Vertshuset Røros: In the historic Rammgården on Kjerkgata, a building from 1844 that was a shop until 1967 before becoming an inn and then a hotel; rooms with a kitchenette 6 minutes on foot from the station.
- Bergstadens Hotel & Spa: Run by the same family for four generations, 350 metres from the station and close to the historic street of Bergmannsgata; one wall of the reception is left exposed with the original wood from 1897.

Outside the historic core
Neighbourhood · About 10 minutes on foot from the historic centre and the station; the same distance by taxi from the airport as the rest of the city.
Best for: Families or longer stays wanting a pool and spa in addition to the historic centre, accepting a 10-minute walk.
Pros
- Indoor pool, sauna and wellness area under one roof, handy with children or on colder days
- Larger rooms than several historic hotels in the centre
Cons
- 10 minutes on foot from the main streets of the historic centre, so less convenient for those who want everything always within reach
- More of a resort atmosphere than a seventeenth-century miner's house
Recommended hotels in this area
- Røros Hotell - Bad & Velvære: Røros's largest hotel complex, with pool, sauna and wellness area; buffet breakfast with local products and an indoor gym, about 10 minutes on foot from the historic centre.
