Sheremetyevo International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Sheremetyevo is about 29 km from central Moscow and the Aeroexpress reaches Belorusskaya in 35 minutes, but the last train leaves in the evening and at night you are left with a taxi and the MKAD ring road traffic. That is why, with a dawn flight or after a late arrival, it makes sense to sleep on the side of terminals D, E and F, where two hotels stand next to the Aeroexpress station. If you have a few days, you can go straight into the city: the train drops your bags in the very centre and the metro reaches Red Square in a few minutes. Travellers heading to terminals B and C need one more Aeroexpress leg.

Airport area (terminals D, E, F)

Airport area · On foot from terminals D, E and F; from terminals B and C take the Aeroexpress or the hotel shuttle. The Aeroexpress station for the city centre is right next to both properties.

Best for: Flights before 8 a.m. or late-evening arrivals, when the Aeroexpress is no longer running.

Pros
  • You can walk from terminals D, E and F, with no need for trains or taxis
  • Aeroexpress a few steps away: 35 minutes to Belorusskaya with departures every 30 minutes
  • Reception and restaurants on site for those arriving after the last train
Cons
  • Outside the hotel there is nothing but airport-related facilities
  • From B and C you need a train or shuttle, with times to check

Pros
  • A single direct train from the airport, with no changes with your luggage
  • The Circle and Zamoskvoretskaya lines start from the same station
  • Red Square is just four metro stops away
Cons
  • The last Aeroexpress is in the evening: for early-morning departures you need a taxi
  • The area around the tracks is busy and not very picturesque

Centre, Red Square and Bolshoi Theatre

City centre · Aeroexpress to Belorusskaya (35 minutes), then four stops on the Zamoskvoretskaya line to Teatralnaya: less than an hour from the airport, change included.

Best for: Those with two or three days who want to see the Kremlin and the historic centre on foot.

Pros
  • The Kremlin, Red Square and the Bolshoi are within walking distance
  • Teatralnaya is on the line that starts from the Aeroexpress station
  • Historic and high-end hotels within a few blocks
Cons
  • With a morning flight, a night taxi on the MKAD is the only alternative to the Aeroexpress
  • High-end properties: to save money, the Belorusskaya area is better
