Sliač is first and foremost a military base: civilian flights were suspended in October 2021 for work linked to the new F-16 fighter jets and then resumed on a seasonal basis from 2022, mostly charters for the summer holidays; a return to regular scheduled flights is under discussion with the Slovak government but is not yet operating. The airport is about 14 km from Banská Bystrica and 9 km from Zvolen, and must always be reached by a taxi booked in advance from one of the two towns, because there is no bus or train that stops at the terminal. Those arriving for charter holidays or for work find accommodation mainly in Banská Bystrica, with the historic core of SNP Square just minutes from the main properties.

Best for: Those arriving with a seasonal charter or for work who want to stay close to SNP Square, the city's historic centre.
