Toncontín International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Toncontín is the historic airport in the heart of Tegucigalpa, famous for its short runway set among the hills of the capital; since 2021 international flights have moved to the new Palmerola airport, about 60 km to the north-west, and Toncontín today mainly operates domestic and regional flights, with Roatán as the busiest route. The advantage remains closeness to the city centre, just 3-6 km depending on the arrival neighbourhood, reachable only by taxi or rental car in 15-20 minutes: there is no train or regular airport bus. For anyone who only needs to catch a domestic connection, accommodation a couple of steps from the terminal avoids the traffic of the capital, while those staying in the city will find most of the international hotels between Colonia Palmira and the Multiplaza business district.
