Umeå Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Umeå Airport is just 4-5 km from the centre: a taxi takes about 10 minutes, and the scheduled buses, surprisingly, are often faster than the taxi during rush hour. With such a short distance, the centre is almost always worthwhile, even for those with an early morning flight, and the choice concentrates on the banks of the Umeälven river, where the city's most interesting hotels are grouped.

Central Umeå, on the river

City centre · About 4-5 km from the terminal: a taxi takes 10 minutes (about 250 SEK), the scheduled bus about 8 minutes and is often the fastest option during rush hour.

Best for: Those who want the Väven cultural centre, the riverside restaurants and the central station within walking distance, with the airport 10 minutes by taxi or bus.

Pros

Hotels, central station and the Väven cultural centre all within walking distance along the river
An airport connection among the fastest for cities of this size in Sweden

Cons

River-view rooms in the most in-demand properties must be booked in advance on weekends
In winter the riverside is often frozen: little to do outdoors in the evening
