LATAM Peru: The Domestic Network Holding Together a Country Divided by the Andes
LATAM Peru is the Peruvian subsidiary of the LATAM Airlines group, formed in 2012 from the merger of Chile's LAN and Brazil's TAM, with its main hub at Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima. In a country where the Andes make road transport between many cities very slow or impractical, LATAM Peru's domestic network is, for millions of travelers, the only fast link between distant regions of the territory.
The fleet
Domestic and regional routes are operated with Airbus A320s and A321s, while the longer intercontinental services rely on widebody aircraft shared with the other LATAM group subsidiaries, typically routed via the group's major hubs.
Routes and network
The domestic network connects Lima with destinations such as Cusco, Iquitos and Arequipa, as well as dozens of other Peruvian cities spread across the coast, the Andes and the Amazon, joined by regional routes to South America and intercontinental connections via the group's network.
Fares and baggage
Economy fares follow the multi-tier scheme typical of the LATAM group, with baggage allowances and change conditions that vary considerably between the base fare and the higher bands.
What passengers say
- Most cited strength: dense frequencies on strategic tourist routes such as the one to Cusco, essential for access to Machu Picchu.
- Most common criticism: basic economy fares considered rigid when it comes to changes, in line with the rest of the LATAM group in South America.
LATAM Peru is the most practical choice for those who need to move quickly between the different regions of Peru, especially on the tourist routes to Cusco and the Amazon, where the road alternative would take far longer. It is less suitable for those who buy the cheapest fare and expect wide flexibility with booking changes.
If your goal is Machu Picchu, book your flight to Cusco well in advance during the high tourist season: the most convenient frequencies sell out quickly during peak periods for international tourism.
