Doha Hamad lounges: finding your way between north and south

Doha is an airport built around one airline, and the lounges show it: they are all run by Qatar Airways or its Al Maha Services, divided by travel class and status level. Economy passengers with Priority Pass still have a way in, the Al Maha lounges, and those arriving in Doha find lounges along the arrivals route too.
The lounges are all in the main terminal, and the geography boils down to two poles: the Duty Free Plaza South and the Duty Free Plaza North, towards concourse C and the Orchard area. The real question is a different one: which class, which Privilege Club status or which card you travel with, because each lounge has a specific audience and the doors are not interchangeable.

At the top is the Al Safwa First Lounge, in Plaza South. It is reserved for First passengers of Qatar Airways and of oneworld airlines and for Privilege Club Platinum members flying business; Priority Pass is not accepted. With a spa with a jacuzzi, a private relaxation room and fast access to immigration and security, it is the lounge for those with a long layover who really want to rest. In business, with Qatar Airways or another oneworld airline, the lounges are the Al Mourjan ones. The Al Mourjan Business Lounge (South), which Qatar Airways describes as one of the largest lounges in the world, has an indoor garden, family rooms, hot food and a bar. On the north side, on level 2 of concourse C, the Al Mourjan Business Lounge - The Garden is its northern extension: an alternative to consider when boarding is from that side. Those with a status but no premium ticket have lounges of their own, split by level. In the south, Platinum and Gold members have two separate lounges, the Platinum Lounge - South and the Gold Lounge - South; in the north the Platinum and Gold Lounge - North brings them together in a single lounge. The equivalent oneworld tiers apply in these as well. Privilege Club Silver members, instead, have the Silver Lounge, in concourse B. For everyone else the front door is the Al Maha lounges. The Al Maha Lounge - South and the Al Maha Lounge - North stay open all night and accept Priority Pass, LoungeKey, DragonPass, Visa Airport Companion and Mastercard Travel Pass, in addition to paid entry and premium passengers of other airlines. The south one has showers, a family room, a children's area and an indoor smoking area, but limits the stay to four hours and restricts entry at peak times; the north one has showers, meeting rooms and a deli-style kitchen, and can be booked online. A few special cases remain. The Al Maha Departure Lounge is located before security and is paid: it is for those who arrive at the airport well in advance. Those landing in Doha find lounges at arrivals too, before and after immigration: the Al Maha Arrival Lounges for arriving passengers and the First and Business Class Arrival Lounges for those who flew premium. Finally, the Mariner Lounge, with work stations and showers, is reserved for maritime and offshore workers.
To recap, Doha follows a precise hierarchy. With a First ticket, or with Platinum status in business, the destination is Al Safwa; in business you go to the Al Mourjan that is most convenient to your gate; with a Privilege Club or oneworld status but no premium ticket you enter the lounge of your own level. Those who have only a card such as Priority Pass, or prefer to pay, aim for the Al Maha: the north one if you want to book online and eat at the deli counter, the south one if you travel with children and do not need to stay beyond four hours.
