Riyadh Airport → King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD)

The Yellow Line metro has its terminus right inside the King Abdullah Financial District, in a station designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and linked via skybridge to the district's internal monorail: for those heading to offices or hotels in KAFD, it is the most direct option, with no transfers.

Riyadh Airport → Olaya and Diplomatic Quarter

The SAPTCO coach line 909 connects the airport to Olaya, the city's main commercial and business axis, and to the Diplomatic Quarter, with dedicated stops and luggage compartment for large suitcases: a comfortable alternative to taxis and ride-sharing apps for those who are not in a hurry.

Riyadh Airport → Diriyah (UNESCO site)

Diriyah, with its historic center of At-Turaif on the outskirts of the capital, is not yet served by metro: the Yellow Line extension to the site is under construction, so today it is only accessible by road, with a taxi or private car about 30–40 minutes depending on traffic.

Riyadh Airport → King Abdulaziz Historical Center (Al-Murabba)

The King Abdulaziz Historical Center, in the Al-Murabba neighborhood, houses the palace where the modern Saudi state was born: the most practical solution is a taxi or Uber/Careem, because the nearest metro stations are not at a comfortable walking distance from the complex.

Car rental at King Khaled International Airport

Car rental companies of reference have a desk in the arrivals area.

Required documents: driver's license, passport, credit card and, normally, an International Driving Permit.

Hotels near King Khaled International Airport

King Khalid lies 35 km from the centre, but since December 2024 the Yellow Line of the metro runs in 30-35 minutes to the King Abdullah Financial District with no changes: those who choose a hotel there, near the station, get the most predictable transfer. Olaya, the city's commercial heart, can instead be reached by taxi or on the SAPTCO 909 coach. Sleeping at the airport only makes sense for very early departures or overnight layovers: there is little in the surroundings, and not all hotels have their own shuttle. With less than a night to spare, it is best to stay near the terminal.

Airport area

The hotel is about 6 km from the airport and has no free shuttle: a private transfer is available on request, or you can take a taxi or Uber.

Best for: Overnight layovers and dawn flights, when 35 km of road to the centre weighs more than a night in the city.

Pros
  • A few minutes by car from the terminal: you sleep until the last moment
  • Avoids the 30-40 minutes of road to the centre before and after the flight
Cons
  • No free shuttle: the transfer must be booked or paid for separately
  • There is little around beyond the hotels: you dine on site

Olaya and Kingdom Centre

Best for: Those who want the city's commercial axis and restaurants, shopping centres and the Kingdom Centre skyscraper close by.
