Since 2026 the Saudi eVisa has been available for 66 nationalities (including Italy), a one-year multiple-entry visa valid for stays of up to 90 days for visiting, tourism, events and Umrah (excluding Hajj and study).

A passport with adequate remaining validity is required; always check the up-to-date requirements on the official portal before departure.

Saudi Arabia: safety

Saudi Arabia is generally considered safe for visitors, with violent crime very rare.

Respect local laws, which are fairly strict on certain public behaviours (modest dress, alcohol consumption banned everywhere in the country): always check your country's up-to-date travel advisories.

Saudi Arabia: health situation

No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry from Europe, except yellow fever for those coming from at-risk countries; specific vaccinations (meningitis ACWY) are required for those taking part in Hajj or Umrah.

Summer temperatures can be extreme: always carry plenty of water and limit outdoor activities during the hottest hours.

Saudi Arabia: currency, payments and connectivity

The currency is the Saudi riyal (SAR), pegged to the US dollar at a fixed exchange rate. The official language is Arabic, with English widely used in the tourism and business sectors.

Uber and Careem are widely used in large cities, often cheaper and more convenient than traditional taxis.
