Viru Viru is 13.8 km north of downtown Santa Cruz de la Sierra, about 30 minutes by taxi or with minibus line 135, so sleeping right next to the runways only makes sense for dawn flights. For all other cases, the real choice is between Equipetrol, the restaurant and nightlife district a couple of kilometres from the historic centre, and the fifth-ring area toward the Predio Ferial Fexpocruz, where the convention-style hotels tied to Expocruz and the other trade fairs of the year are concentrated.

Best for: Travelers who want restaurants, bars and shopping centres within a few minutes' walk, while still being about half an hour by taxi from Viru Viru.
