Thailand: visa and entry requirements

Note: from 15 September 2026, Thailand is reducing the visa exemption from 60 to 30 days for citizens of 60 countries (including Italy); those entering before this date under the 60-day regime can still complete the full stay granted on entry.

All visitors must also complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival. A passport valid for at least 6 months is required.

Thailand: safety

Thailand is generally safe for visitors in tourist areas, with violent crime contained.

Usual precautions apply against tourist scams (tuk-tuks, jewelry shops) in Bangkok. Always check your country's updated travel advisories, especially for the border provinces with Malaysia in the deep south.

Thailand: health situation

Vaccinations against hepatitis A and typhoid are generally recommended; antimalarial prophylaxis is useful for those visiting rural border areas. Dengue risk is present year-round, especially during the rainy season.

It is advisable to drink only bottled water; ice at tourist venues is generally safe but check in more remote areas.

Thailand: currency, payments and connectivity

The currency is the Thai baht (THB). The official language is Thai, with English widespread in tourist areas.

Grab is the most widespread ride-hailing app, often cheaper and more transparent than traditional taxis; metered taxis are nonetheless the standard in major cities.
