A Day in Corlu, Turkey

In the eastern Thrace, along the ancient road that connected Istanbul to Europe, Corlu is now an important industrial center of Tekirdag Province.

The city, grown very rapidly in recent decades, still preserves traces of its Ottoman history alongside modern manufacturing development.

The historic center of Corlu preserves the nineteenth-century mosque and the remains of Ottoman architecture, still well visible among the city's more recent buildings.

Heading toward the industrial zones, you'll encounter the large textile mills that have made Corlu one of the most important manufacturing centers in all of Thrace.

A few kilometers away, the surrounding countryside offers extensive vineyards and sunflower cultivation, typical of the agricultural landscape of the Tekirdag region.

Toward evening, local restaurants serve Thracian tradition dishes, with grilled meats and local cheeses accompanied by wines from the region.

Çorlu represents rapidly growing industrial Turkey, a less known face compared to the more celebrated coastal tourist destinations of the country.

A useful stopover for those transiting between Istanbul and Europe, capable of offering glimpses of Ottoman history and Thracian agricultural tradition.
