Aktion National Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Aktion National Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Aktion Airport serves two very different destinations: Preveza, the mainland town just 8 km away, connected by Greece's only underwater tunnel in 10-15 minutes; and Lefkada, the island linked to the mainland by the floating bridge of Agia Mavra, about 18-20 km and 25-30 minutes by car. Those with a short layover or a dawn flight find it convenient to stay on the Preveza side; those on holiday on the island, among the beaches of Porto Katsiki and Egremni, still need to allow a good half hour for the bridge, with the risk of finding it open for boats to pass.
Preveza
Airport area · 8 km from the airport, 10-15 minutes through the Aktion-Preveza underwater tunnel; car or taxi only, there is no dedicated shuttle.
Best for: Short layovers and early-morning departures, for those who want to stay on the mainland side without tackling the bridge to Lefkada.
Pros
- The underwater tunnel makes the transfer fast and independent of surface traffic
- Several properties are just minutes from Faros and Monolithi beaches, handy for one last swim before the flight
Cons
- Most accommodation is on the coast south of the town, 6-10 minutes by car from the actual historic centre, not within the Venetian lanes
- Few public transport options: without a car, every trip requires a taxi
Recommended hotels in this area
- 14 luxury apartment: Kiva Luxury Suites & Villas aparthotel, just minutes on foot from Faros and Monolithi beach, about 10 minutes by car from the harbour and the historic centre of Preveza.
- ALS COMFORT SUITES: Suites with pool on the coast south of Preveza, on the main road to Igoumenitsa, with direct access to a private beach; convenient for those with a car who want to stay close to the sea.

Lefkada (town)
Nearby town · 18-20 km from the airport, 25-30 minutes by car across the causeway and the floating bridge of Agia Mavra, which swings open to let boats pass and can block traffic for a few minutes in both directions; no direct bus from the airport.
Best for: Travellers staying on the island of Lefkada who want the town centre with shops and restaurants within easy reach, accepting the longer transfer from the airport.
Pros
- Lefkada is the only Greek island reachable by car, without a ferry
- The town centre and the seafront can be visited on foot, with supermarkets and taverns within easy reach
Cons
- The Agia Mavra bridge can stay closed to traffic while boats pass: not worth risking for a tight flight
- The island's most famous beaches (Porto Katsiki, Egremni) are still 40-60 minutes by car from the centre
Recommended hotels in this area
- Allure Central Boutique: A boutique hotel with 14 rooms in the heart of Lefkada town, on Karaiskaki street, a few steps from shops and restaurants.
- Anthias Garden: A guesthouse with a garden among olive trees near Agios Ioannis beach, half a kilometre from the centre of Lefkada town.
