Hurghada International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Hurghada centre and the seafront
City centre · The group of hotels closest to the terminal: the Marriott Beach Resort and its suites are about 6 km away (10 minutes by car) on El Corniche Road, the Hilton Plaza is in the Dahar district a few minutes from the old town, and the Mercure is further south on Safaga Road at km 12, about 20 minutes away.
Best for: Layovers, short stays and those who want to stay just minutes from the terminal while still having a private beach guaranteed.
- Private beach and pool just 10-20 minutes from check-in, without the dead time of El Gouna or Soma Bay
- The Hilton Plaza is just steps from the cafés and souks of Dahar's old town
- The seafront is busy with traffic and less carefully landscaped than the resort bays further south
- The Mercure, more isolated on Safaga Road, depends on the shuttle or a taxi even for a night out

El Gouna
Nearby town · Sources don't agree on an exact figure: between 25 and 35 km north of the terminal, 25-35 minutes by car along the coastal road. Hotel shuttles need to be booked in advance with flight details.
Best for: Travelers who want a walkable resort town with a marina, golf and restaurants, while still staying on a stretch of coast with a private beach.
- Abu Tig Marina and the centre of El Gouna reachable on foot from the hotels, with restaurants and evening life outside the resort
- Lagoons and canals designed by architect Michael Graves, a setting quite different from the classic single-block resorts
- No public transport: every trip to Hurghada requires a taxi or private shuttle
- Farther from the terminal than the other areas, to be avoided for dawn departures or short layovers
Recommended hotels in this area
- Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna: On its own peninsula in El Gouna, less than 2 km from the pedestrian centre, Abu Tig Marina and the golf course; private beach exclusive to the resort.
- Sheraton Miramar Resort El Gouna: Designed by architect Michael Graves across nine islands connected by lagoons and wooden bridges, just a short walk from the centre of El Gouna.

Soma Bay
Neighbourhood · About 45 km south of the terminal, on the Soma Bay peninsula; 45-60 minutes by car, confirmed also by the official websites of the chains present there.
Best for: Travelers looking for an isolated resort on a private peninsula, with golf, kitesurfing and spa, without ever needing to leave the property.
- Peninsula almost entirely occupied by resorts, with private beaches and The Cascades golf course designed by Gary Player
- Among the best Red Sea destinations for kitesurfing, with schools and rental gear on site
- Total isolation: there is nothing outside the resorts, not even an independent minimarket
- A distance that rules out short layovers or very early morning departures
Recommended hotels in this area
- Kempinski Hotel Soma Bay: On the tip of the Soma Bay peninsula, with 400 metres of private beach and lagoon pools; among the highest-rated in the area on nearly every platform.
- Mövenpick Waterpark Resort & Spa Soma Bay: At km 49 of the Hurghada-Safaga road, with the only water park on the peninsula among the available resorts; useful for those traveling with children.
- Sheraton Soma Bay Resort: 326 rooms with access to The Cascades golf course designed by Gary Player and to one of the largest thalasso spas in the area; the official website describes it as 45 minutes from the terminal.
