Akure Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Akure Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Akure Airport is a regional hub with few domestic connections and no public transport to the city: a taxi remains the only option for the trip into Akure. The verifiable hotel offering nearby is limited and split between two areas far from each other: Oba-Ile, the residential district closest to the terminal (about 10 km), and Alagbaka, the administrative district in the city centre (about 15 km). For those with just a few hours between two flights Oba-Ile is the more practical choice; for longer stays Alagbaka offers more restaurants and services, in exchange for a longer transfer from the airport.
Oba-Ile
Airport area · About 10.4 km from the airport (just over 6 miles), a 15-20 minute drive or taxi ride along the roads linking the terminal to the district.
Best for: Short layovers and early-morning departures, when it pays to stay as close as possible to the terminal without facing traffic towards the centre.
Pros
- The area with the verifiable property closest to the terminal among those available in Akure
- A quiet residential district, with views over the hills around Oba-Ile
Cons
- Few restaurants or services nearby: dinner almost always means staying at the hotel
- The range of properties with verifiable reviews around the airport is very small
Recommended hotels in this area
- 501 Aparthotel: A 40-room aparthotel in the residential district of Oba-Ile, about 10.4 km from the airport; the 26 sqm Deluxe units have separate sleeping, living and kitchenette areas, handy for stays longer than one night.

Alagbaka
City centre · About 15 km from the airport, 30-35 minutes by car or taxi: the sources available on Akure differ from each other by a few kilometres, in the absence of a single verified figure for the airport-Alagbaka transfer.
Best for: Those staying more than one night who prefer to be close to the state offices and services of central Akure, accepting a longer transfer from the airport.
Pros
- Akure's administrative district, with the offices of the Ondo State government and the city's main services
- More choice of restaurants and shops than the area around the airport
Cons
- The transfer from the airport is longer and, with no regular city buses, always requires a taxi or private car
- Traffic on the road to the centre can lengthen journey times at rush hour
Recommended hotels in this area
- Royalbirds Hotel & Towers: A 141-room property in Alagbaka, Akure's administrative district; outdoor pool, buffet breakfast included in the price and rooms across several categories, from Standard to Presidential.
