Argyle International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Argyle International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Argyle International Airport is on the south-eastern coast of Saint Vincent, on the opposite side from Kingstown: those landing here and heading for the capital face about 8 km and 15-20 minutes by car, while those aiming for the coastal strip of Villa Beach and Indian Bay, the stretch with the most hotels and views of the small island of Young Island, take almost 20 minutes because it is on the opposite side of the island. Staying in the area just south of the airport, between Ratho Mill and Prospect, pays off for short layovers or dawn departures, saving the 15-20 minute transfer; those with more time will instead find the beach and restaurants concentrated in Villa Beach.
Ratho Mill and Prospect
Airport area · About 15 minutes by car from the terminal for both properties; central Kingstown, on the other hand, is 20 minutes away on the opposite side of the island.
Best for: Short layovers and early-morning departures: both hotels are about 15 minutes from the terminal, on the same south-eastern side of the island.
Pros
- No need to cross the island after a long flight or before an early-morning departure
- Blue Lagoon bay, with its marina for sailing boats heading to the Grenadines, is right in this area
Cons
- Few restaurants or shops outside the hotels themselves: evenings are almost always spent on site
- Kingstown and its market remain 20 minutes away, on the opposite side of the island
Recommended hotels in this area
- Blue Lagoon Hotel and Marina: 30 boutique rooms in Canash Bay, on the southern tip of Saint Vincent, with its own marina for charter boats and an in-house gourmet restaurant; about 15 minutes from the terminal.
- Hotel Alexandrina: Hotel with outdoor pool and spa in Prospect, 15 minutes from the airport; listed on Booking as 'Kingstown', but actually about 20 minutes from the city centre, closer to the airport than to the capital.

Villa Beach and Indian Bay
Neighbourhood · About 20 minutes by car from the terminal, on the opposite side of the island from the airport; central Kingstown is a few more minutes away.
Best for: Those who want the island's coastal strip with the most restaurants and hotels, with views of the small island of Young Island.
Pros
- Villa Beach and Indian Bay beach within walking distance of the hotels, with a direct view of Young Island
- The highest concentration of restaurants and bars anywhere on the island, handy for evenings out
Cons
- Longer transfer from the airport than the Ratho Mill area
- Dark volcanic sand beaches, different from the white sand typical of other Caribbean islands
Recommended hotels in this area
- Sunset Shores Beach Hotel: Hotel on Villa Beach, right across from Young Island, about 20 minutes from the terminal; outdoor pool and Caribbean restaurant with sunset views.
- Young Island Resort: Resort on a private island of about 5 hectares just 200 metres from the coast of Villa Beach, reached by a private ferry running round the clock; 29 cottages scattered across the hillside with ocean views.
