Bhuj Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Bhuj Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Bhuj airport sits inside an Indian Air Force base, about 5 km north-east of the old town and its royal palaces: it's also the gateway to the Great Rann of Kutch, the salt desert that stretches for tens of kilometres further north, too far away to be considered part of a stay near the airport. In the city the most interesting choice isn't a chain hotel but a stay in the residence of one of Kutch's former royal families, a few minutes from the terminals.

Pros
- A recent hotel with 46 rooms, a pool and a multi-cuisine restaurant
- Linked to the Marriott Bonvoy network through the Indian brand The Fern
Cons
- Some reviews note that the location is on a highway, not very interesting on foot
- Rooms described as functional but not spacious

- Outside the palaces and the markets, the city offers little in the way of evening life

The Sharad Baug royal residence
Neighbourhood · About 6 km from the airport, 15-20 minutes by car; the palace and the museum are in the same complex as the homestay.
Best for: Those looking for an authentic stay inside a real royal residence of Kutch, not a chain hotel.
Pros
- You sleep in the campus of the same palace, built in 1867 for the royal family of Kutch, now also a museum
- Run directly by the royal Jadeja family, with fruit and vegetables from the palace's own garden
Cons
- Few rooms available: it's a private residence, not a hotel with round-the-clock services
- The complex is outside the city's commercial centre, a vehicle is needed for evening trips
Recommended hotels in this area
- Sharad Baug homestay: Inside the campus of the Sharad Baug palace, built in 1867 and the residence of Kutch's last maharaja, Madansingh, until 1991; run by the royal Jadeja family, with fruit and vegetables from the palace's own garden and grounds that attract migratory birds.
