Cluj-Napoca International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Avram Iancu Airport is about 9-10 km from the centre of Cluj-Napoca: bus 8 covers the route in 30 minutes with departures every 15 minutes on weekdays (every 20 at weekends), while a taxi takes 10-15 minutes for about 8 euros. Being a compact university city, the old town remains convenient even for early departures, but for shorter layovers or dawn flights a hotel literally next to the terminal removes any dependence on bus timetables.
At the airport
The Sky Airport Hotel is about 200-300 metres from the terminal, a walk of a few minutes; for the centre there's still bus 8 (30 minutes) or a taxi (10-15 minutes).
Best for: Short layovers and departures before 7, when you want check-in a step from the room.
Pros
- Check-in on foot in a few minutes, opened recently with very careful cleaning standards
- No risk of missing the flight due to a late bus or traffic on the main road
Cons
- Only the airport area around, with no independent restaurants within walking distance
- For an evening in the centre you still need 10-15 minutes by taxi or 30 by bus, there and back
Recommended hotels in this area
- Sky Airport Hotel: About 200-300 metres from the terminal on Strada Traian Vuia, the closest to the airport among Cluj's hotels; a recent building with an in-house restaurant and bar for anyone with a long layover.

Best for: Those who want the main square, St. Michael's Church and the city-centre restaurants within walking distance.
Pros
- Piaţa Unirii, St. Michael's Church and the university centre within walking distance of every hotel in the area
- Good choice of independent restaurants and cafés, open until late
Cons
- No hotel is directly on the square: you still need 10-15 minutes on foot from the more outlying ones
- A university area, so noisier on weekend evenings
Recommended hotels in this area
