Del Bajío International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Aeropuerto Internacional del Bajío is in the municipality of Silao and serves two quite distinct real towns: León, the big industrial footwear hub about 15 km and 20 minutes away by car, and Guanajuato, the UNESCO-listed colonial capital, about 23 km and another 20 minutes in the opposite direction. Those with a business meeting or a trade fair almost always stay in León, those visiting the region for tourism aim for Guanajuato; staying in Silao, next to the airport, only makes sense for short layovers or very early departures.

Silao and the airport

Airport area · A few minutes by car from the terminal; most properties are on the same access road to the airport.

Best for: Very early departures or short layovers, when you don't want to depend on the trip to León or Guanajuato.

Pros
  • No risk of missing the flight because of traffic towards León or Guanajuato
  • Generally lower rates than the two towns
Cons
  • Industrial, transit area, nothing to do on foot in the evening
  • For León or Guanajuato you still need 20 minutes by car
