Enfidha - Hammamet International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Enfidha-Hammamet airport is neither in Enfidha nor in Hammamet, but out in open countryside halfway between the two coastal strips of Hammamet and Sousse: every transfer needs 30-45 minutes by car, with no exceptions. Towards Hammamet and Hammamet Nord it's about 30-35 km (35-40 minutes); towards Yasmine Hammamet, further south, it's over 32-33 km (31-40 minutes depending on traffic). There is no train; there are shared shuttles bookable online (about 4 euros per person towards Sousse or Hammamet, 45 minutes) and buses of the National Transport Company between Enfidha and Hammamet a few times a day, plus the forecourt taxis (2017 rates around 65-75 dinars for Hammamet or Sousse, to be checked since they're dated). Here it isn't a matter of choosing between airport and resort: it's a matter of choosing between two resort strips both far from the terminal, Hammamet to the north and Yasmine Hammamet to the south.

Hammamet and Hammamet Nord

Neighbourhood · 30-35 km from the airport, 35-40 minutes by car; a shared shuttle bookable online in about 45 minutes for 4 euros per person, or a forecourt taxi at a negotiated rate.

Best for: Those who want historic Hammamet, with its medina and the Hammamet Nord golf course, accepting 35-40 minutes from the terminal.

Pros
  • The medina of Hammamet and the old town seafront are a few minutes from the hotels of the northern strip
  • The Golf de Hammamet is literally next to the Golden Tulip Président, handy for those travelling to play
Cons
  • Same distance from the airport as Yasmine Hammamet: there's no transfer advantage in choosing this strip
  • Zone Touristique Hammamet Nord is designed for a resort stay, with little to do on foot outside the hotels

Recommended hotels in this area

  • Golden Tulip Président Hammamet: In the Zone Touristique of Hammamet Nord, facing the beach and next to the golf course; 210 rooms, two outdoor pools and a private beach. Also known under other commercial names (Club President, Cooee President) depending on the tour operator selling it.
  • Radisson Blu Resort & Thalasso Hammamet: On the beach of eastern Hammamet, just 2 km from the historic centre and the medina: among the chain resorts closest to the heart of the city, not isolated like most of the tourist area's offer.

Yasmine Hammamet

Neighbourhood · 32-33 km from the airport, 31-40 minutes by car depending on traffic; roughly the same distance as Hammamet Nord, with direct Enfidha-Yasmine Hammamet buses described as a 15-minute option from the terminal once on board.

Best for: Those who want the marina, theme parks and large resorts of the southern coastal strip, born in the 1990s as a planned tourist hub.

Pros
  • Marina with shops and restaurants, Carthage Land park and large modern resorts concentrated in a single planned area
  • Wide beaches, less fragmented than those of historic Hammamet
Cons
  • A recently built area, without the charm of the historic medina
  • Same transfer time from the airport as Hammamet Nord: no distance advantage

Recommended hotels in this area

  • Iberostar Waves Averroes: Resort on the beach of Yasmine Hammamet, 600 metres from Carthage Land park; about 41 km from Enfidha airport, the farthest from the terminal among the hotels in this guide.
  • Alhambra Thalasso: About 300 metres from the beach of Yasmine Hammamet, 9.5 km from the historic centre of Hammamet; an in-house thalasso centre for those seeking a wellness stay more than nightlife.
