Fukuoka Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

The Kuko subway line links Fukuoka's terminal to Hakata in just 5 minutes and to Tenjin in 11, one of Japan's fastest airport-to-centre connections: for anyone staying more than one night the centre is almost always the better choice, with Hakata and Tenjin reachable without changing trains. The calculation flips only for flights departing at 6-7 in the morning, when the subway isn't running yet, and for stopovers of just a few hours. Travellers after the sea and sports facilities rather than city life can look at the Momochi area, on the bay, a bus or taxi ride from the centre.

Airport area

The Hotel Front Inn is about 2 km from the Domestic terminal (5 minutes by car) and runs a free shuttle every morning from 5:50 to 10:15; on foot it's instead 13 minutes from Fukuoka Airport subway station.

Best for: Departures before 7, when the Kuko subway isn't running yet, and stopovers of just a few hours.

Pros
  • A free shuttle dedicated to the very earliest morning flights, when the subway isn't running
  • Just a few minutes by taxi are enough for check-in, even outside the shuttle's hours
Cons
  • A residential area south of the airport, with no restaurants or evening life beyond the hotel
  • The shuttle covers only the Domestic terminal, not the International one
