Guarulhos - Governador André Franco Montoro International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Guarulhos is a municipality in its own right, northeast of São Paulo, and the journey into the city depends almost entirely on traffic on the Marginal Tietê: 40 minutes at night, well over an hour at peak times. For this reason, with a dawn flight or a tight connection, sleeping near the airport removes the uncertainty of the road. If you are staying a few days in the city, on the other hand, it makes sense to focus on the neighborhoods served with no changes by the Airport Bus Service, so you don't have to worry about the metro with your luggage; if the intercontinental flight leaves in the evening, a day on Paulista and the afternoon bus are enough.

Best for: Anyone connecting at Guarulhos between two international flights with only hand luggage.

Pros
  • No transfer and no checks to repeat: you leave the room and walk to the gate
  • You avoid the traffic to São Paulo entirely before a morning flight
Cons
  • Accessible only with an international boarding pass and no checked baggage
  • Not an option for anyone leaving on a domestic flight or needing to collect luggage
