Jorge Newbery Airpark: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Jorge Newbery sits inside Palermo, right on the Río de la Plata waterfront: downtown Buenos Aires is 8 km away, the heart of Palermo less than 2. A taxi from the airport's official stands, with a fixed-price ticket issued by the self-service kiosks in arrivals, almost never takes more than 15 minutes to Palermo or Recoleta, a little longer to the Microcentro or San Telmo at rush hour. Because of this, unlike Ezeiza, the classic «airport or city» dilemma barely exists here: staying in one of the central neighbourhoods costs the same transfer time as a hotel right by the runways, but opens the door to restaurants, nightlife and the subway. A night near the airport is only worth it for those arriving late at night or flying out in the very first hours of the morning.

Palermo and Belgrano, a step from Aeroparque

Airport area · Taxi or car in about 15 minutes to central Palermo, a little more to Belgrano; the airport has no dedicated public shuttle, only the official taxi stands and the self-service kiosks with fixed-price tickets.

Best for: Late-night arrivals or departures before 6, when even an extra quarter-hour by taxi makes a difference.

Pros
  • The transfer stays under 15-20 minutes even while staying outside the airport grounds
  • Belgrano and Palermo have supermarkets and late-night spots, handy for anyone arriving at night
Cons
  • These are privately run apartments, without round-the-clock reception like a chain hotel
  • For the Microcentro or San Telmo a taxi is still needed, even if the ride stays short

Pros
  • Neighbourhood with the city's highest concentration of restaurants and bars
  • Direct connection with the Línea D metro, handy for the Microcentro without needing a taxi
Cons
  • Some side streets of Palermo Soho are poorly lit at night
  • On weekends the bars stay noisy until late

Recoleta and Microcentro

Neighbourhood · Taxi in about 15-20 minutes from the airport to Recoleta; a few minutes more to the Microcentro, along Avenida 9 de Julio.

Best for: For those who prefer the classic neighbourhood with museums and boutiques, or the Microcentro with theatres and offices, accepting a few extra minutes by taxi.

Pros
  • Recoleta has the famous monumental cemetery and the craft fair on weekends
  • From the Microcentro it's a few minutes' walk to the Teatro Colón and the Obelisco
Cons
  • Recoleta has little nightlife compared to Palermo
  • The Microcentro empties out in the evening and on weekends, with shops and offices closed

Recommended hotels in this area
