Katowice International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Katowice International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Katowice-Pyrzowice airport is far from the city, 34 km to the north, and there is no direct rail link: you get around with ZTM's AP line buses (50-70 minutes, a ticket for a few zloty) or with the faster private Matuszek minibuses, about 35 minutes. For this reason Katowice city centre is almost always worth it only if you still accept half an hour or more of transfer: there are no hotels in the immediate vicinity of the terminal, so even those who want to limit the journey still have to rely on the city. With dawn departures or one-night layovers it's better to choose a private minibus bookable in advance rather than relying on the scheduled buses, which run less frequently in the early morning hours.
Katowice city centre
City centre · From the centre the ZTM AP line reaches the airport in 50-70 minutes; the Matuszek minibuses, with stops in various points of the city, take about 35 minutes for a fee (20 PLN). By taxi the trip costs around 120-180 PLN.
Best for: Those who want the widest choice of hotels and accept the good half hour's transfer to Pyrzowice, by scheduled bus or private minibus.
Pros
- International chain hotels concentrated in a few blocks around the Rondo and the Spodek, with very high ratings on several platforms
- The Rynek, the Silesian Museum and the Spodek Arena are within walking distance of most hotels in this area
Cons
- No rail link to the airport: even from the centre the transfer always requires a bus, a minibus or a taxi
- In the early morning hours the scheduled buses are less frequent, so for a dawn flight it's better to book a private minibus in advance
