Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Harry Reid is about 6 km from the Strip: a taxi or rideshare takes 10-15 minutes, so distance is never a reason to sleep next to the runways. The point is a different one: most travellers want to stay inside a resort, because in Las Vegas the hotel is also the entertainment, and the choice is rather between the Strip and Downtown. For a dawn flight or a one-night layover there are hotels a few minutes from the terminal with a shuttle, useful even for those who have no intention of gambling. Anyone arriving in the morning for a trade show should allow for traffic around the Convention Center on convention days.

Airport area

Hampton Inn & Suites Airport offers a free shuttle to the terminal, running 24 hours according to the Hilton website; otherwise a taxi or rideshare takes a few minutes.

Best for: Those with a flight before 7 a.m. or a one-night layover who prefer a traditional hotel to a casino.

Pros
  • Free shuttle at all hours, no need to depend on taxis at night
  • No casino and no noise from the gaming floor: you sleep in silence
  • Breakfast included at the Hampton, useful before a morning flight
Cons
  • No resort or evening entertainment within walking distance: you need a taxi for the Strip
  • Roadside chain hotels: the feel is that of an upgraded motel, without resort amenities

Central Strip

Neighbourhood · Taxi or rideshare in 10-15 minutes to the central Strip; the RTC 109 bus takes about 37 minutes, but many resorts require a change.

Best for: Those who want the classic Las Vegas experience, with shows, restaurants and the Bellagio fountains a few steps from the entrance.

Pros
  • The Bellagio fountains, shopping malls and restaurants are within walking distance
  • The car transfer is among the shortest between airport and centre in the United States
  • Many resorts host shows and restaurants in the same building
Cons
  • A mandatory resort fee at almost every hotel, to check when booking
  • On foot the distances are long and the summer heat makes them tiring
  • On big-event weekends traffic stretches the trip

Recommended hotels in this area

  • The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas: 3,033 rooms, more than 2,000 with a private terrace: in the fountain-view categories you watch the Bellagio show from your room.

Downtown and Fremont Street

Neighbourhood · RTC buses 108 and 109 reach the Bonneville Transit Center in 35-45 minutes; the Centennial Express CX stops at Casino Center & Fremont in about 45 minutes.

Best for: Those looking for a more intimate, pedestrian-friendly atmosphere than the Strip, with historic hotels and old-style venues.

Pros
  • The Fremont Street Experience and the historic casinos are steps away
  • An area you can explore on foot, with no need for shuttles between hotels
Cons
  • From the airport the bus route is long: with luggage a taxi is better
  • The evening offer revolves around the casinos: little else for those who don't gamble
  • The Strip attractions remain several kilometres away
