Nay Pyi Taw International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Naypyidaw is a capital planned from scratch in the 2000s, with nearly empty ten-lane roads and hotels concentrated in a single "Hotel Zone" in the Dekkhina Thiri district, 20-30 minutes and about 20 km from the airport. There are no alternative districts: those who come here almost always do so for business or conferences, and the choice among the few large properties of the Hotel Zone matters more than the zone itself.

Hotel Zone, Dekkhina Thiri

Neighbourhood · 20-30 minutes by taxi from the airport for about 20 km, on wide roads that are almost always clear.

Best for: The only real base in the city: conferences at the Myanmar International Convention Centre and institutional meetings in the administrative district.

Pros
  • Close to the Myanmar International Convention Centre (MICC) for those in town for conferences
  • Wide roads and almost no traffic make the transfer quick and predictable
Cons
  • Almost nothing outside the hotels: restaurants and shops are scarce and spread over great distances
  • No neighbourhood life: Naypyidaw remains an administrative city, not built for tourism
