Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
The Villeda Morales is in the La Mesa area, about 12 km east of the centre of San Pedro Sula: there is no train or regular airport bus, so the transfer is always made by taxi, rental car or private shuttle, in 15-25 minutes depending on the traffic on Circunvalación. For those staying more than one night, the centre and the Multiplaza area are almost always the better choice, with restaurants, the shopping mall and the life of the city close at hand. The calculation changes for anyone arriving late at night or having to leave at dawn, perhaps to catch a domestic flight to Roatán or La Ceiba: in that case accommodation a few minutes from the terminal avoids crossing the city altogether.
Airport surroundings
Airport area · Houses and apartments 5-15 minutes by car from the terminal, with no need to face the traffic on Circunvalación towards the centre.
Best for: One-night layovers and flights at dawn or late at night, including connections with domestic flights to the Islas de la Bahía.
Pros
- No journey through city traffic before an early morning flight
- Handy for anyone continuing their journey with a domestic flight to Roatán or La Ceiba
Cons
- Around it only commercial streets and the industrial area of La Mesa, with no evening life within walking distance
- For dinner or a trip to the centre a taxi is still needed, there and back
Recommended hotels in this area
- Modern House, Airport 5 Min, AC and Full Equipped: Independent house with air conditioning about 5 minutes by car from the terminal, designed for anyone arriving late or leaving at dawn without wanting to sleep in a hotel.
- Apartamento Orquídeas a 15 minutos del Aeropuerto: Apartment about 15 minutes from the Villeda Morales, a compromise between closeness to the terminal and a minimum of neighbourhood life around it.
