Västerås Airport, also known as Hässlö, is about 102 km from Stockholm: the Flygbussarna to the City Terminal takes 80 minutes, too long for those aiming only at the capital. But unlike Skavsta, here the airport mainly serves a real, inhabited city, Västerås, which lies just 5-7 km from the terminal and has its own historic centre on Lake Mälaren. For those travelling to Västerås, or to the Mälardalen area in general, staying in the city is almost always worthwhile; only those heading straight for Stockholm need to weigh whether the hour and twenty minutes on the coach are worth the savings on the flight.

City centre · The VL city bus line 3 connects the airport to central Västerås in 15-20 minutes, running about every 30 minutes; by taxi 10 minutes are enough for the 5-7 km.
