Stokmarknes Skagen Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Stokmarknes Skagen Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Skagen airport is about 5 km from Stokmarknes, 10 minutes by car or taxi with no direct buses linked to flights. The town, known as the birthplace of the Hurtigruten (the first coastal service departed from right here in 1893), has its only two real hotels on the waterfront of the centre. There are no alternatives near the runway, so the choice is between the two waterside addresses in town.
Central Stokmarknes
City centre · About 5 km and 10 minutes by car or taxi from Skagen airport; no direct bus linked to flights.
Best for: Those arriving by plane who want to stay on the waterfront, close to the Hurtigruten museum and the harbour.
Pros
- Both hotels are on the water, a few minutes on foot from the Hurtigrutens Hus museum
- A convenient base for boat trips in the Vesterålen and the nearby Raftsundet
Cons
- No hotel near the runway: 10 minutes of transfer are still necessary
- The choice in town comes down to just two properties
Recommended hotels in this area
- Quality Hotel Richard With: A hotel opened in 2023 right on the water in Stokmarknes, named after Richard With, the captain who started the first Hurtigruten service in 1893; a Quality-branded property of the Nordic Choice group.
- Vesterålen Resort & Kysthotell: A seaside hotel with bay views from the terrace, a common starting point for fishing excursions and diving in the Vesterålen.
