Vagar Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

The Faroe Islands' airport is on the island of Vágar, in the village of Sørvágur, while the real capital Tórshavn is 46 km further east, on another island linked by an undersea tunnel: by car the transfer takes about 40 minutes, by scheduled bus up to an hour. Almost the entire hotel supply of the archipelago is concentrated in Tórshavn, so anyone staying near the runway will find practically no hotels: it's worth accepting the transfer and sleeping in town, where restaurants and evening life are also found. Bus 300 connects the airport and the capital 6-8 times a day, with some direct runs and others that stop in the villages of Miðvágur, Sandavágur and Kollafjørður.

Nearby town · Bus 300 in about 60 minutes (6-8 runs a day, ticket from 90 DKK, less if you get off earlier at Miðvágur or Sandavágur), or taxi/rental car in about 40 minutes for 46 km.

Best for: Practically anyone: it's the only area in the Faroe Islands with a real hotel supply, as well as the capital, with restaurants, a harbour and evening life.
