Westerland Sylt Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Sylt's small airport is just 2 km from Westerland, the island's only real town: by taxi it takes 3 minutes, on foot just over twenty. There are no big hotel chains here: most accommodation consists of managed apartments in residences, concentrated between the seafront and the pedestrian Friedrichstraße. Those flying at dawn or late at night lose almost nothing by staying away from the terminal, because the whole of Westerland is very close anyway; the real choice is rather between staying by the sea, near the shops, or a little further out towards the south.
Seafront and Strandstraße
Neighbourhood · By taxi, about 3 minutes from the terminal; on foot it's just over 20 minutes along Boysenstraße.
Best for: for those who want the sea close by and the first light of day on the beach
Pros
- Beach a few minutes' walk away
- Close to the promenade and the Sylter Welle centre

- In summer the area gets busy at midday
- These are residence apartments, not classic hotels
