Iberojet: The Spanish Leisure Airline Betting on the Airbus A350 for the Caribbean
Iberojet is a Spanish leisure airline, part of the Iberostar tourism group and born from the earlier Evelop! Airlines, with operating bases in Madrid and Barcelona. It mainly operates charter and package-fare flights tied to organized tourism, with a strong specialization in long-haul routes to the Caribbean and Central America.
From Niche Charter to Expanding Long-Haul Carrier
Iberojet's leap in size in recent years can be measured by the arrival of modern widebody aircraft in its fleet, a sign of an airline aiming to consolidate in long-haul leisure rather than limiting itself to traditional short-haul charter. Expansion on the most popular Caribbean routes has led to very sharp increases in frequency over a short time on some key destinations.
The Fleet
The fleet combines Airbus A320-214s for short-haul routes with a growing widebody component: Airbus A330-300, A330-900neo and, more recently, A350-900, which is also used on the new routes to Central America launched in 2026. An additional leased A330-300 is planned to support growing demand on the most popular routes.
Routes and Network
Cancún will go to five weekly connections from November, with daily flights from December, while Punta Cana will rise from three to eleven weekly frequencies over the same period, an increase of more than 250%. From 2026, San José in Costa Rica and Havana in Cuba are also being added, and, from September, new weekly connections from Madrid and Barcelona to San Salvador operated with the A350-900.
What Passengers Say
- Most appreciated: A330 and A350 cabins considered modern for the charter segment, and the convenience of nonstop flights to Caribbean destinations otherwise reachable only with a connection.
- Points to consider: the largely charter nature of the offering, with change and cancellation conditions often tied to the holiday package purchased rather than to a flexible scheduled fare.
Iberojet is a good option for anyone organizing a trip to the Caribbean or Central America through a holiday package and wanting a nonstop flight on a relatively recent aircraft. It is less suitable for those seeking the flexibility of a scheduled ticket bought separately from a tour package.
If you book one of the new connections to San Salvador or Punta Cana in 2026, check the date-change conditions with the agency or tour operator: on newly launched routes, frequencies are still settling.
