Pudong: finding your way among lounges, terminals, satellites

To find the right lounge at Pudong you need two coordinates: where you board from, terminal or satellite, and the type of flight. The lounges are in fact split between domestic departures and international departures. The good news is that with Priority Pass you can enter most of them, including many lounges run by airlines.
The first step is to look at your boarding pass. At Pudong you depart from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, but also from their respective satellites, S1 and S2, and each has its own lounges. Since almost every lounge serves only one side, if you fly abroad you need only consider the international ones in your area, and vice versa if you are staying in China. The second thing to know concerns access. Here Priority Pass opens the numbered independent lounges, the various VIP Lounges, but also a good part of the airline ones: China Eastern, Juneyao Air and the China Southern lounge in satellite S2. In several lounges the stay is limited, while very young children enter free.

At Terminal 1, those leaving for abroad can choose between the No. 39 VIP Lounge, on the fourth floor after security, which has showers and also accepts American Express Platinum, and the China Eastern Lounge No. 36, near security gates 10 and 11. On the domestic side, the No. 9 VIP Lounge, between gates 8 and 9, serves hot dishes in shifts around mealtimes, as an alternative to the China Eastern Lounge No. 35. In satellite S1 the most complete international lounge in terms of access is the China Eastern Lounge No. 137, shared with Shanghai Airlines and China United Airlines and open to eligible SkyTeam passengers as well as Priority Pass; the alternative is the No. 135 VIP Lounge. For domestic flights from the same satellite there are the China Eastern Lounge No. 101 and the No. 120 VIP Lounge. Terminal 2 is the right place for anyone on a night flight abroad: the Juneyao Lounge No. 72, near gate D73, stays open all night and has showers, and the China Eastern Lounge No. 77 also stays open at night, with hours tied to the airline's flights. Above gate 69 there is then the No. 69 VIP Lounge, which appears in the Priority Pass list as First Class Lounge. On the domestic side, the Juneyao Lounge No. 86 offers free luggage storage, handy if you have bulky suitcases, while the No. 73 VIP Lounge is found by turning right after security. In satellite S2, finally, those leaving for abroad find both showers and free luggage storage in the No. 170 VIP Lounge. Domestic flights have the No. 190 VIP Lounge and, on the fourth floor, the China Southern lounge intended for First and Business passengers and for Gold, Silver and Elite Plus status holders.
In practice, at Pudong the choice narrows by itself: once you have identified the terminal or satellite and the side, domestic or international, only a few lounges remain, almost all reachable with Priority Pass. Among these it pays to aim for the services you really need: the showers of the No. 39 at Terminal 1 or the No. 170 in satellite S2, the night opening of the Juneyao No. 72 at Terminal 2, the luggage storage for those travelling loaded. Those flying with China Eastern or another SkyTeam airline and entitled to the lounge will instead find the most suitable one in the No. 137 in satellite S1.
