Frequently asked questions
Q. How much does the Volabus from Genoa Airport cost?
The Volabus requires a dedicated ticket, different from the standard urban one: around 6 euros on board or at the kiosk, 5 euros if bought online in advance. The ticket still includes 60 minutes of validity on the AMT urban network (bus, metro, funiculars) once you get off.
Q. Is Genoa Airport convenient for the Cinque Terre?
It's the closest airport, but to reach the Cinque Terre it's best to take a regional train from Genoa station, since direct car access to the Cinque Terre is limited.
Q. Why is Genoa Airport built on an artificial peninsula?
Because of the scarcity of flat land along the Ligurian coast: the runway was built on land reclaimed from the sea, offering a scenic landing over the Gulf of Genoa.
Q. Is it worth renting a car in Genoa for Liguria?
Yes, for exploring the inland areas and coastal spots less well served by train, such as some towns on the Riviera di Levante.
