How to get to Incheon International Airport

Seoul city center is about 48-60 km from the airport: transfer takes approximately 43-51 minutes by direct AREX train, the fastest option.

By Car

Travelers arriving by car reach central Seoul in approximately 60-90 minutes, traffic permitting.

By Train

The AREX (Airport Railroad Express) train connects the airport to Seoul Station in direct version (non-stop, 43-51 minutes) or with intermediate stops (more economical, up to about 1 hour).

By Bus

Numerous limousine buses connect the airport to specific neighborhoods of Seoul, with multiple stops.
💡
Tips The direct AREX train (9,500 KRW) is generally the fastest and most reliable option to reach Seoul, avoiding traffic that can significantly slow down buses.

Incheon → Seoul Station

This is where to get off to transfer to a KTX train to other Korean cities: AREX Express is the right choice when your plan involves a connection, because it arrives at the main platform without intermediate stops.

Incheon → Myeongdong

There is no direct railway connection: getting off at Seoul Station requires transferring to the subway line 4, or you can avoid the transfer by taking a direct limousine bus (line 6015) that goes straight to the district.

Incheon → Hongdae

It's the only nightlife and university area reachable by train without transfers: AREX All-Stop stops directly at Hongik Univ. Station, in the heart of the district.

Incheon → Gangnam

The subway transfer from Seoul Station is long and inconvenient with luggage; for this reason, toward Gangnam and Songpa, the direct limousine bus remains more practical, although travel time depends on traffic on the Incheon Bridge.

Incheon → Songdo

The Songdo business district, with its convention center, is paradoxically closer to the airport than to Seoul: a direct bus (lines 6707/6770) reaches it in 30-50 minutes, without going through the capital.

Car rental at Incheon International Airport

Leading car rental brands are present with a counter in the arrivals area.

Bring your license, passport, and credit card as standard; an IDP (International Driving Permit) is usually requested in addition.

Hotels near Incheon International Airport

Incheon stands on an island 48-60 km from Seoul, so the choice matters more here than elsewhere. With a flight before 8 a.m. or a night layover it is better to stay on Yeongjong Island: the first useful train and the traffic on the bridge make leaving from the capital at dawn risky. If you are staying a few days, on the other hand, you have every reason to sleep in Seoul, choosing the neighborhood according to the connection: the AREX serves Seoul Station and Hongdae well, while for Myeongdong and Gangnam the limousine buses spare you any changes with your luggage. Terminal 2 is farther from the hotels on the island: check which terminal you are leaving from.
