Sweden: main airports
Sweden is served by numerous airports, including the three Stockholm airports (Arlanda, Bromma, Skavsta, Västerås), Gothenburg, Malmö, as well as numerous regional airports covering the vast Scandinavian territory, from the south to the far Arctic north.
The country offers coastal archipelagos, boundless forests, Swedish Lapland with its northern lights, and modern cities with strong Scandinavian design.
Sweden: recommended activities
Sweden: visa and entry requirements
Sweden is part of the Schengen area: EU citizens can enter with a valid ID card, while other non-Schengen countries can stay for up to 90 days in 180 without a visa if coming from exempt countries (including the US, Canada, Australia).
A valid passport or ID document is required.
Sweden: safety
Sweden is among the safest countries in the world, with violent crime very rare.
Usual precautions apply for outdoor activities in remote areas: always inform someone of your itinerary for excursions in wilderness or Arctic areas.
Sweden: health situation
No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry. Tap water is drinkable throughout the country, among the highest standards in the world.
For excursions in the Arctic north, consider adequate equipment for extreme weather conditions, especially in winter.
Sweden: currency, payments and connectivity
The currency is the Swedish krona (SEK), not the euro despite EU membership. Sweden is among the most cashless countries in the world: almost all payments are made by card or apps such as Swish, carrying cash is often unnecessary.
The official language is Swedish, with English spoken fluently by almost the entire population. Taxis do not have regulated fares: always check the comparative price sticker (jämförpris) displayed on the rear window.
