Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Jiangbei Airport is about 26 km from downtown Chongqing, and the fastest metro route isn't the direct line but a change at Hongtudi station onto the newer Line 10, for a total of 45-50 minutes to Jiefangbei; by taxi, through the city's hills, the trip still takes 40-50 minutes depending on traffic. For short layovers, a small cluster of hotels just minutes from the terminals avoids the trip into town altogether; those staying to see Chongqing gain a lot by sleeping near Jiefangbei, a step away from the night lights of Hongyadong, the terraced complex on the cliff above the Jialing River.
Jiangbei
Airport area · Several hotels in the area run a free shuttle to the terminals, some available 24 hours on request; by car the airport is 5-10 minutes away, while the metro (Line 3 or Line 10) still means going into the station.
Best for: Layovers of a few hours and departures before the metro opens.
Pros
- Several hotels offer free shuttles running 24 hours, useful for night flights when the metro is closed
- Lower rates than downtown, convenient for anyone who just needs to sleep between two flights
Cons
- An area of just hotels and offices: for dinner you almost always stay at the hotel
- Downtown Chongqing remains 45-50 minutes away even with the fastest transport
