Juanda International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended…

Juanda Airport is in Sidoarjo, south of the city, about 20 km from downtown Surabaya: with light traffic 25-30 minutes is enough, but rush hour can push that to 45-60. Surabaya has no real hotel cluster next to the terminals, so the choice is between the historic centre of Tunjungan and the Pakuwon business district, to the west of the city and on the opposite side from the airport: Pakuwon isn't any closer than Tunjungan, it just offers a different atmosphere, built around large malls connected to the hotels.

Pakuwon, the malls to the west

Neighbourhood · About 22-25 km from the airport, 30-40 minutes by car outside rush hour: this isn't a closer area to the airport, just on the opposite side of the city from Tunjungan.

Best for: Those who want a hotel directly connected to a large mall, with restaurants and cinemas without going outdoors.

Pros

Direct access to Pakuwon Mall and Pakuwon Trade Center, among the largest in Surabaya
Newer, more modern hotels than many properties in the historic centre

Cons

Not any closer to the airport than the centre, just in the opposite direction
A district built for the malls, little to do on foot outside them
