Skellefteå Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

The airport is about 15 km from central Skellefteå: a taxi or shuttle takes 20-25 minutes, with a taxi cost between 320 and 450 SEK. At this distance, the centre, along the Skellefteälven river, remains the most convenient base for almost any kind of stay, and it is also where the city's recent architectural symbol stands, the wooden tower of the Sara Cultural Centre.

Central Skellefteå, on the river

City centre · About 15 km from the terminal: 20-25 minutes by taxi (320-450 SEK) or with the airport shuttle.

Best for: Those who want the main square, the river and the centre's restaurants within walking distance, with the chance to sleep in Skellefteå's tallest wooden tower.

Pros

Möjligheternas Torg square, the river and the city theatre within walking distance of the centre's hotels
The Wood Hotel, in the 75-metre tower of the Sara Cultural Centre, has become the city's new landmark

Cons

15 km from the airport is not a little: for the very earliest morning flights it's still worth booking the taxi the evening before
Outside the historic centre the city is designed for cars, little to do on foot beyond the central core
