Tbilisi International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
At the airport
Airport area · From the arrivals terminal it takes less than 5 minutes on foot: just follow the red neon sign visible right outside, on the left.
Best for: Dawn departures and short stopovers, for those who want to reach check-in on foot without depending on a bus or taxi.
- Check-in reachable on foot in a few minutes, handy for a late arrival or a dawn departure
- Property opened only in 2024, so rooms and systems are still new
- Around it there is only the airport perimeter: for dinner or nightlife you still need to go into town
- No dedicated shuttle: the link is just a sidewalk toward the terminal
Recommended hotels in this area
- ibis Tbilisi Airport: About 500 metres from the terminal, reachable on foot in under 5 minutes by following the red neon sign at the arrivals exit; opened in 2024, it is literally the only property right next to the runways.

Rustaveli Avenue and Freedom Square
City centre · Bus 37 from the airport, stop right in front of arrivals, every 30 minutes: a 30-40 minute ride (0.50 lari). By taxi, 20-30 minutes. The train to the central station runs only twice a day, not very practical.
Best for: Those who want to stay on the capital's main avenue, with shops, restaurants and the metro just steps away.
- Rustaveli Avenue, Freedom Square and the metro station of the same name are just steps away, handy for getting around the rest of the city
- The Tbilisi Marriott Hotel occupies the historic building of the Hotel de l'Europe, right on the avenue's sidewalk
- The train to the airport is impractical (two runs a day): only bus 37 or a taxi remain
- A touristy, busy area, with higher prices than the outlying districts
Recommended hotels in this area
- Tbilisi Marriott Hotel: In the historic building of the 1915 Hotel de l'Europe, right on the sidewalk of Rustaveli Avenue, steps from Freedom Square and Parliament.
- Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel: In the building that was Tbilisi's first grand Soviet-era hotel, facing the Square of the Rose Revolution (the former Freedom Square); indoor and outdoor pools and an in-house casino for those staying more than one night.
- ibis Styles Tbilisi Center: About 120 metres from Freedom Square, on Galaktion Tabidze street; among the most affordable options in the area for those who want to stay within walking distance of Rustaveli Avenue and the Freedom Square metro.

Old Town
Neighbourhood · The same bus 37 or a taxi from the airport, 25-35 minutes depending on traffic; the Old Town is south of Freedom Square, reachable on foot from Rustaveli in 15-20 minutes.
Best for: Those looking for the atmosphere of the oldest Tbilisi, among alleys, sulphur baths and the view from the Narikala fortress.
- The alleys, the Abanotubani sulphur baths and the Narikala fortress are reachable on foot from the hotels
- A cosier, less busy atmosphere than Rustaveli Avenue in the evening
- Narrow, sloping streets, not very comfortable with heavy suitcases
- Same airport transfer times as the Rustaveli area: no faster direct connection
Recommended hotels in this area
- Mercure Tbilisi Old Town: In the heart of the Old Town, 5 minutes on foot from Metekhi Cathedral and next to the Abanotubani sulphur baths, on Vakhtang Gorgasali street.
- ibis Styles Old Tbilisi: On Kote Abkhazi street, the Old Town's main thoroughfare; 7 minutes on foot from Freedom Square and 2 minutes from Sioni Cathedral.
