Växjö Kronoberg Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Växjö Airport, also called Småland Airport, is about 8-10 km from the centre: bus line 4 of Länstrafiken Kronoberg reaches Växjö Resecentrum station in 20-25 minutes, a taxi from the rank outside arrivals in 10-15. For most trips the city centre remains the most convenient base, compact and gathered around the two lakes; those travelling for trade fairs or conferences in the Samarkand area can instead save time by choosing a hotel halfway between the airport and the city.
Central Växjö
City centre · Bus 4 from the airport in 20-25 minutes to Växjö Resecentrum; by taxi 10-15 minutes.
Best for: Those who want the historic centre between the two lakes, the cathedral and the station a few steps from the hotel.
Pros
- Central station, cathedral and Stortorget within walking distance of almost all hotels
- Restaurants and shops concentrated in a few pedestrian streets, comfortable on foot in the evening too
Cons
- Bus 4 doesn't cover departures before 6: for early flights a booked taxi is needed
- Few free parking spots on the central streets, especially on market days
Recommended hotels in this area
- Elite Stadshotellet Växjö: Right on Stortorget, 100 metres from the central station: the most convenient location in the city for those arriving by train or needing to catch the bus to the airport.
- Elite Park Hotel: Overlooking Teaterparken, a few minutes on foot from the station and Växjö's concert hall; reviews mention a good balance between cleanliness and staff.

Airport area · 7 minutes by car from the airport, about 1.9 miles (3 km) from central Växjö.
Best for: Those arriving for a trade fair or conference in the Samarkand area who want to halve the transfer time from the airport.
Pros
- Connected to the Samarkand shopping centre, handy for dinner or shopping without moving around
- Closer to the airport than the city-centre hotels, handy for those arriving late or leaving early
Cons
- For the historic centre and the lake you still need a bus or taxi
- A commercial and sports area, not very lively in the evening compared with Stortorget
Recommended hotels in this area
- Scandic Växjö: Opposite the Samarkand shopping centre, 7 minutes by car from the airport; free parking and a pool with sauna for those arriving on an evening flight.

Best for: Those looking for a stay different from the usual city hotel, near the university and immersed in greenery by the lake.
Pros
- A nineteenth-century lakeside castle, with rooms in the historic building or in the annexe just steps away
- Linnaeus University campus two minutes on foot, handy for visits or university events
Cons
- Few restaurants nearby besides the hotel's own: for an evening out you need bus 3 towards the centre
- The bus to the airport still requires a change at the central station
Recommended hotels in this area
- Teleborgs Slott: A late-nineteenth-century lakeside castle, two minutes on foot from the Linnaeus University campus; some rooms in the main building have lake views and the original tiled stove.
