Vilnius International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Vilnius airport is just 6 km from the centre: the dedicated train reaches the railway station in 7 minutes with 16 daily departures, the 3G express bus or bus 88 to the Old Town take 20-25 minutes, a taxi about 15-20 minutes for 10 euros. With such a short trip, the centre and the Old Town remain almost always the most convenient choice, even for those leaving in the morning. Things change for layovers of a few hours or pre-dawn departures, when a hotel literally a step from the terminal avoids any transfer at all.

At the airport

The AIRINN is about 50 metres from the main terminal; the Park Inn by Radisson is a 7-minute walk, just over 600 metres.

Best for: Layovers of a few hours and departures before 6am, when every minute on foot from check-in counts.

Pros
  • No transfer at all: from the AIRINN, check-in is less than a minute's walk away
  • Both hotels remain convenient even for those leaving before 6am, when the train and buses aren't running yet
Cons
  • Around it there are only car parks and airport-area offices: dinner means staying at the hotel
  • The centre or the Old Town still require 15-25 minutes by train, bus or taxi

  • More modern and quieter hotels at night than the streets of the Old Town
Cons
  • An office district, not very lively on weekends compared with the historic centre
  • For the evening venues it's still necessary to cross the river towards the Old Town

Old Town

Neighbourhood · Bus 88 from the airport to the Old Town in 20-25 minutes, or the train to the station and then 10 minutes on foot; taxi about 15-20 minutes for 10 euros.

Best for: Travellers who want to sleep among the baroque churches and courtyards of the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, at the cost of a slightly longer trip to the airport.

Pros
  • Cathedral Square, the Gate of Dawn and the university reachable on foot from your room
  • The highest concentration of restaurants and venues in the city
Cons
  • Cobbled streets, often crowded with tourists during the central hours of the day
  • No direct link to the airport: bus 88 doesn't pass through every street of the historic centre
