Hotels near Kinmen Airport

Kinmen is an outlying island just a few kilometres off the Chinese coast, not an extension of Taipei: Shang-i Airport is in the Jinhu district, in the eastern inland part of the island, about 6 km from the main town of Jincheng. By taxi the main town is reached in 10 minutes (about NT$250), by scheduled bus in 15-25 minutes depending on the service. For those who want Jincheng's historic centre, with the ferry pier to Xiamen and the streets of Mofan Street, it's best to stay in town; for short layovers or early morning departures, accommodation in Jinhu, the same district as the airport, avoids the trip to the main town altogether. Those who want to visit the historic villages and forts in the west of the island can instead aim for Jinning, a rural area with some of Kinmen's best-preserved traditional houses.

Best for: Those who want the ferry pier to Xiamen, Mofan Street and the town's life just steps from the room.

Pros
  • The ferry pier to Xiamen and the Mofan Street market within walking distance
  • Restaurants and shops in the main town open until late, more than any other area of the island
Cons
  • Accommodation is almost all small family-run B&Bs, without the services of an international hotel
  • Restored historic houses fill up early on weekends and Taiwanese holidays

Near the airport – Jinhu

3-5 km from the terminal depending on the property; some accommodations offer a free transfer to and from the airport, to be confirmed at the time of booking.

Best for: Short layovers or early morning departures, when it's best to stay in the same district as the airport without heading into the main town.

Pros
  • Minimal distance from check-in, useful with the first flight of the morning
  • Mount Taiwu and Kinmen Lake, among the island's best-known natural areas, are just minutes away
Cons
  • The main town of Jincheng and its evening life remain a 10-minute taxi ride away
  • A rural area, with few restaurants independent of the accommodation

Neighbourhood

Jinning – the historic western side

Farther from the airport than Jincheng or Jinhu; a taxi or rental car is always the better option, since direct links to the airport are limited.

Best for: Those who want to visit the historic villages and military sites in the west of the island, in a more rural and quiet area.

Pros
  • The Qing dynasty Military Headquarters and the Wu Dao Cheng Huang temple about 15 minutes' walk away
  • One of the island's most authentic rural areas, far from the main town's tourist flows
Cons
  • Few restaurants independent of the accommodation, especially in the evening
  • Direct links to the airport are more limited than in Jincheng or Jinhu
