Airports in Taiwan

Taiwan: main airports

Taiwan is served by Taiwan Taoyuan, the main international hub, Taipei Songshan, closer to the city center, Kaohsiung, in the south of the island, as well as Tainan and Kinmen, the latter an outlying island closer to mainland China than to Taiwan itself.

The island offers spectacular mountains, an extremely rich street food culture, and efficient modern cities such as Taipei and Kaohsiung.

Taiwan: recommended activities

Taiwan: visa and entry requirements

Many nationalities, including Italy, can enter without a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. It is also mandatory for all visitors to complete the free online TWAC (Taiwan Digital Arrival Card), up to 7 days before the flight, exclusively on the official website twac.immigration.gov.tw.

A passport valid for at least 6 months and a return or onward ticket are required: Taiwan applies fairly strict checks on this requirement.

Taiwan: safety

Taiwan is among the safest places in the world, with violent crime very rare.

Usual precautions apply for mountain hikes: always check weather conditions, especially during typhoon season (June-October).

Taiwan: health situation

No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry from Europe. Tap water is generally safe but often boiled out of local habit; bottled water is nonetheless widely available.

The healthcare system is of excellent standard: always carry adequate travel insurance.

Taiwan: currency, payments and connectivity

The currency is the New Taiwan dollar (TWD). The official language is Mandarin Chinese, with English widespread in major cities.

Beware of unofficial websites asking for payment for the TWAC, a completely free government service: use only twac.immigration.gov.tw.
