Norway: main airports
Norway has one of the densest airport networks in the world relative to its population, with forty active airports: Oslo Airport (Gardermoen), the country's main hub, Bergen, gateway to the western fjords, Stavanger, heart of the oil industry, Trondheim, in the centre of the country, and Tromsø, the main gateway to Norwegian Arctic, as well as dozens of small regional airports connecting the most remote communities along the coast and inland.
The country offers spectacular fjords, the northern lights in the north and the midnight sun in summer.
Norway: recommended activities
Norway: visa and entry requirements
As a member of the Schengen area (while not being an EU member), Norway does not require a visa for EU citizens, who travel with a valid ID card or passport.
For non-EU visitors, the same rules as the Schengen area generally apply: always check the updated requirements, including the upcoming ETIAS for visa-exempt countries.
Norway: safety
Norway is among the safest countries in the world, with violent crime very rare.
Excursions in nature, especially in the fjords and mountains, always require appropriate equipment and attention to the weather forecast, which can change rapidly. In the north of the country, familiarise yourself with the low winter temperatures and low-visibility conditions.
Norway: health situation
No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry from Europe or North America. The healthcare system is among the best in the world; travel insurance is nonetheless recommended (EHIC card for EU citizens).
Tap water is safe throughout the country, including many natural mountain springs.
Norway: currency, payments and connectivity
The currency is the Norwegian krone (NOK), not the euro despite participation in the Schengen area. Credit cards are widely accepted everywhere, often preferred over cash.
The official language is Norwegian; English is spoken fluently by almost the entire population. Tipping is not mandatory, service is often already included in the bill.
